Halitosis

Also commonly known as Bad Breath.

This is usually not a serious condition it can also be related to an underlying disease or health problem that you may be unaware of.

To make sure it is a temporary condition and not a chronic one certain facts may need to be discussed in order to discover the cause of bad breath or what left a bad taste in your mouth.

Improper brushing or not flossing, or not cleaning removable appliances such as dentures, or smoking, are examples of daily bad habits leading to periodontal gum disease.

The intake of certain beverages such as coffee or foods with strong odours, struggles with a dry mouth, or the common sinus, mouth or throat conditions may add to this unpleasant odour.

Halitosis may also be a symptom of certain diseases or health issues such as kidney disease, diabetes and, more frequent amongst patients, the typical heart burn or Gastrointestinal reflux.

What does halitosis smell like? The best way to describe it would be to ask a close friend or family relative to have a closer smell. However, if you’d like a professional opinion then seeing your dental professional would be a good option. Halitosis may not always be dental related, but it’s a good place to start.
